A stand-off in Tralee between a woman armed with knives, and the Garda Armed Response Unit has come to an end.

The woman barricaded herself into a shop on Castle Street in the town, while reportedly armed with several knives.

Garda negotiators spoke with the woman and she has now been removed from the building.

The area was closed to pedestrians and traffic while the incident was ongoing.

The woman, who is in her early 30s and is understood to be from County Cork, has been in the premises since around 4 o’clock.
