Met Éireann has issued three weather warnings for wind, snow and ice.

A status orange wind warning is in place for Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick for tonight from 10.00pm.

Westerly winds are forecast with average speeds of 65 to 75km/h, with gusts of 110 to 130km/h at times overnight.

A status yellow alert has been in effect for the entire country since 8.00pm.

The forecaster says overnight winds are expected to reach speeds of up to 65km/h, with gusts of 90 to 110km/h.

And there is a yellow warning coming into effect for snow and ice in Connacht, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal.

Met Éireann says heavy snow showers are expected overnight, with accumulations of 3cms in parts of Connacht, Ulster and Leinster.

It adds that larger accumulations are likely on higher ground.

All warnings are in place until at least 10.00am Wednesday.
