Smithers from 'The Simpsons' has finally come out.

The character, whose loyalty and lust for Mr Burns has been a feature of the cartoon for nearly 30 years. announces his sexuality in an upcoming episode.

It is the latest news grabbing storyline from 'The Simpsons'.

Recently Homer and Marge temporarily separated in an episode involving Lena Dunham from 'Girls'.

The show has also faced some uncertainty after actor Harry Shearer - who is responsible for voicing Mr Burns, Smithers and several others - announced in May he was leaving.

But it was reported just weeks later that he had signed a new contract and would be staying.

In fairness, we kind of saw it coming....
