Ireland needs a coordinated nationwide movement to tackle mental health issues.
That is the recommendation being made by the Sinn Féin MEP Liadh Ni Riada.
The MEP recently hosted a delegation of voluntary groups and organisations involved in mental health programmes in the European Parliament.
She says more needs to be done, and hopes to facilitate a movement of change, and that there are many groups in need of support:
Earlier this month An Bord Pleanála granted permission for a new facility to replace the Central Mental Hospital in Dublin.
The National Forensic Mental Health Facility will be built at Portrane, with hopes it will be fully operational in 2018.
The new project will include a 120 bed hospital to replace the Central Mental Hospital, a 10 bed mental health intellectual disability forensic unit, and a 10 bed child and adolescent mental health unit.
