Questions of State funding for private schools have been raised as the Budget approaches.
Minister of State Alan Kelly has argued that the amount of State support to private schools has to be revisited.
When fee and common State support is combined private schools receive over €227 million per year.
The General-Secretary of the ASTI union Pat King says some of the teachers employed in private schools are in “very vulnerable positions”.
He adds that some of them are very poorly paid; some are part-time while others are temporary teachers.
Considering the Department of Education needs to find savings of €77 million in Budget 2013 do you think it is fair?
Are they a value for money investment? What do you think?
