Armed gardaí have fired a number of shots after a van failed to stop in Inchicore in Dublin.

Nobody was injured in the stand-off this afternoon at Kylemore Way, which happened just before 3pm during an operation by the Special Crime Task Force.

Officers seized a gun and a silencer at the scene.

Gardaí say a man in his 20s has been arrested following the incident.

He is being held at Ballyfermot Garda Station.

A second vehicle that is believed to have been involved in the incident fled the scene, which has been sealed off for forensic tests.

The Garda Ombudsman Commission has also been notified of the incident.
