A Donegal man has set a new world record by shearing 867 lambs in nine hours.

Ivan Scott from Kilmacrennan began shearing at 5am on Sunday morning, completing the task later that afternoon.

The record attempt was originally due to take place on Friday but bad weather in Cornwall postponed the event for two days.

Scott beat the previous record set by Don King from New Zealand in 2007 by just one lamb.

This makes him the first person in the northern hemisphere to hold the record.

The Donegal man has already set two sheep shearing related records this year.

In April he set a new Guinness World Record for the fastest time to shear a sheep, completing it in 37.9 seconds, and then in June he broke the Irish record for the most ewes shorn in nine hours.

He sheared a total of 820 sheep, beating the previous record of 483.

Mr Scott has also won nine All-Ireland Championships.
