Sinn Féin TD Eoin Ó Broin has said he sometimes shares his bed with his dog, despite having an allergy to some types of dog hairs.

Deputy Ó Broin is the final politician to take part in Sean Moncreiff's 'Quick-Fire Quiz'.

The three-minute segment saw the Dublin Mid-West candidate reveal that he used to be in a band - playing the euphonium, the bass and the double bass.

"But I haven't played musical instruments since I was in my mid-20s", he said.

The deputy said he has never received any penalty points as "I don't have a driving licence, I don't have a car - I travel everywhere by foot and by bus".

He also said he always sleeps on the left side of the bed, "even when I go to hotels it's the left side"

"I sleep not only on the left side, but right on the edge of the left side.

"Although our dog Cooper does have a tendency to crawl into the bed so he splays out over the rest," he explained.

On Sinn Féin hopes in the general election, he said he had "no idea" how many seats the party could win "and I'm not even going to try and predict".

Asked about any allergies, he said: "I'm an asthmatic so I have an allergy to some dog hairs, to dust and I used to be dairy but no longer".

Asked where he shops for his clothes, he said: "Recently I've been buying stuff on ASOS, but All Saints if I buying in the shops".

Reminded by Sean that this is seen as so-called 'fast fashion', Mr Ó Broin replied: "It is yes, but we all have our foibles".

He also said that if he was not a politician, he would want to be a writer.

"At one stage, when I started reading children's fiction and fantasy, at that stage I wanted to be a writer - that was about 11 or 12".

He also said he took drugs when he was "16, 17, 18, 19" - "I was a musician in the music scene in Dublin so there was a lot of hash and a few other bits and pieces, but unfortunately mainly hash and grass".
