Is the housing crisis one of the reasons why Ireland’s young people are not having as much sex as they’d like?

Guardian journalist Zoe Williams has done a deep dive into the Scandinavian nation’s data on sex and relationships.

She found that the average Dane becomes sexually active at the age of 16 - a figure unchanged since the 1950s.

While in many other countries, the age has risen.

The reason, she believes, is economic.

"Only 11% of Danes by the age of 25 are still living at home,” she told Moncrieff

“Whereas you just have to look around your own family and friends to know that everybody's still living at home Britain, Ireland and, indeed, across Spain, Italy, Germany, France.”

According to 2022  census data published by the CSO, 41% of Irish people between the ages of 18 and 34 live at home with their parents.
