The sentencing of a Cork woman for the manslaughter of her son has been delayed. Diane Ward (45) was due to be sentenced today for killing her only son Anthony (8) at their home at Harrison's Place in Charleville on September 3rd in 2012.

However the prosecution does not have all the evidence it needs to proceed.

Psychiatric reports are being prepared for the sentencing, which will now take place at the Central Criminal Court on April 7th.

She was originally charged with the murder of her only son. However the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) accepted her plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility.

Anthony was due to start a new term at school on the day he was killed. The post mortem concluded that he had been suffocated.
