Cadbury’s owner Mondelez has decided to show the door to one of Ireland’s favourite tea-time treats: the Pink Snack bar.
The news comes after the company announced yesterday that it will cut more than 200 Irish jobs.
From the end of this year, the plant will no longer produce the wafer snack along with another chocolate treat Timeout – citing a decline in popularity as the reason for the decision.
One Dublin man, however, is determined not to see his "favourite indulgence" disappear from Irish shores – and has launched the #savepinksnacks campaign on social media.
When the news first broke, Gerard Maguire of 64 Wine in Glasthule, county Dublin, bought up as many of the bars as possible but then “felt guilty of depriving others of its wafery goodness”.
Mr Maguire has set up a petition which he is calling on fans of the confection to sign in the hope of keeping the Pink Snack on Irish shelves.
Mondelez’s announcement follows a decision in May 2013 to reduce the number of chocolate fingers in a Pink Snack pack from three to two.
