Ryan Tubridy was RTÉ’s highest earner in 2022, new figures released by the national broadcaster reveal.

Through his roles presenting The Late Late Show and a morning slot on RTÉ Radio One, he took home €515,000.

Other presenters included in the list of RTÉ’s highest-paid presenters in 2022 include Joe Duffy (€351,000) and Claire Byrne (€350,000), placing second and third respectively.

It was revealed last June that the national broadcaster paid Mr Tubridy €345,000 euro more than it declared between 2017 and 2022 – and RTÉ said today's list also corrects the record of his earnings.

RTÉ said the list does not include VAT or fees paid through independent production companies for some content commissioned by the broadcaster.

Mr Tubridy left RTÉ in the wake of the scandal and now has a show on Virgin Media Radio in the UK.

RTÉ Deputy Director-General, Adrian Lynch, said the broadcaster is hoping to reduce the earnings of its top-paid stars over the coming years.

“RTÉ has committed to reducing the cost of its highest-paid presenters to ensure that no contractors or employees will earn more than the Director-General,” he said.

“Our presenters play an important role in RTÉ’s provision of vital news, information, and entertainment to audiences right across the country and enable us to generate commercial revenue which is essential to fund RTÉ’s public services.”
