According to the organisation there were 1,621 reports of physical abuse against men reported to them.

There were only 962 such incidents reported the year before.

Individuals who called the helpline were describing personal issues, such as their wife or girlfriend was abusing them verbally or psychologically.

Other types of abuse which is reported to Amen include financial or sexual.

Amen has seen a shocking 45 per cent rise in men using the service since 2009.

The majority of victims chose to contact the service by phone rather than in person.

Niamh Farrell is the Manager of Amen and she says that this isn't just men who they have helped in the past contacting them again:

AMEN says the stigma surrounded male domestic abuse still exists in Ireland, they are urging those suffering at the hands of an abusive partner to contact them in confidence on 046 9023 718.
