British actor Richard E Grant is to star in an undisclosed role in the sixth season of Game of Thrones. The actor, best known for his work in the 1987 cult classic Withnail & I, joins a growing cast of British character actors to have joined the HBO fantasy series, including Ian McShane, Diana Rigg, and Jonathan Pryce.

The British actor was most recently seen on HBO starring as Jasper in Girls, while on Irish screens he presents a documentary series about hotels for Sky in Richard E Grant’s Hotel Secrets.

It is, as yet, unknown which role Grant will be taking on in the hotly anticipated sixth series of the show, which is partially made in and around Northern Ireland. The Spice World star will also join new cast members Freddie Stroma (UnReal), Pilou Asbæk (Borgen and former Eurovision Song Contest host), Ian McShane (Lovejoy, Dead Wood), and Max von Sydow, who joins the series as the Three-Eyed Raven.

Game of Thrones returns to screens in April, 2016.
