The Revenue Commissioners says several thousand homeowners liable for Property Tax will not receive letters.

Over 1.6 million letters have now been sent to properties around the country but some people will not get one due to a computer error.

Meanwhile Revenue is admitting that the reduction in its staff numbers is having an impact on the work it does.

The Revenue Commissioners say it has already begun receiving returns and payments for the local property tax. New figures show 219,000 households have registered for the tax which represents around 12.5% of the projected total.

€1.3 million has so far been collected.

The annual Revenue report for 2012 shows that €36.7 billion of tax and duty was collected last year. This was up by 7%.

However Revenue says that 13% fall in staffing levels in 2008 - to just over 5,700 - is making their work harder.

The Revenue chairperson Josephine Feehily has warned that due to errors in the computer system, several thousand may not receive a letter, and that in those cases the onus is on homeowners to file as they are still liable.
