Children in one parent families are no worse off than those living in households with two parents, according to new research.

A support group for unmarried parents looked at data from the 'Growing Up in Ireland' survey, which followed some 11,000 families.

The research looked at different family types, incuding one parent and two parent families - as well as co-habiting couples.

It found that more than half - 54% - of solo parents get no financial contribution at all from the father of the child.

Dr Eoin Corrigan is a social researcher who worked on the project for Treoir.
