Bankrupt businessman Sean Quinn and members of his family will no longer have legal representation in 2 major upcoming court battles against the former Anglo Irish Bank.

Their solicitors Eversheds have come off record for the Quinns who say they consented to the move on financial grounds.

Sean Quinn’s daughter Brenda has told the court that the family is determined to proceed in an action against the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation (IBRC) even if it means representing themselves.

Her response came as Mr. Justice Peter Charlton warned her and her brothers-in-law Niall McPartland and Stephen Kelly that it is pretty close to inconceivable that their case can be mounted without some legal advice.

Solicitors for the Quinns today withdrew from representing the family in 2 legal battles – one taken by IBRC alleging international Quinn assets have been put beyond their reach and also in proceedings in which the Quinns challenge the legality of Anglo loans to Quinn companies.

Lawyers for IBRC and the Quinn receivers are now concerned that the family are in breach of an order directing them to disclose documents detailing their assets.

But the judge has put that matter back until September 24th allowing the Quinns time to consider their position.
