The mandatory retirement age in the public service is due to rise to 70.
The limit will be raised from the current age of 65.
It is to deal with an anomaly where people were being made to retire at 65, but could not access their state pensions until a year later.
The Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe will hold a press conference on the compulsory retirement age in the public service later.
He will be accompanied by the Ministers of State Patrick O'Donovan and Michael D'Arcy.
The press conference will be followed by a Q&A.
