Protests are expected in the north this afternoon, as the Orange Order attempts to march through the nationalist Ardoyne area of Belfast for the second time.

On July 12th, Orangemen were denied access to their traditional route by police following a ruling by the Parades Commission.

They made a second request to march the route later today, but were turned down again.

The parade is due to start at 2.30 this afternoon.

Member of the Orange Order, Willie Frazier believes they should have the right to march peacefully wherever they want.

Meanwhile, the Tánaiste is urging political and community leaders to prevent a reoccurrence of violence this weekend.

Eamon Gilmore says progress has been made in recent days following the visit of Richard Hass, who will chair future talks in the north that the Orange Order has agreed to engage in.

He says work must start now to avoid a repeat of the weeks of unrest at the end of last year over flying the union jack at Belfast City Hall.
