Two people who were protesting on top of a crane in Dublin over their working conditions have come down.

The men were occupying the structure at Kishoge Community School in Lucan.

They are involved in a dispute over the alleged under-payment of workers by the company JJ Rhatigan.

The union representing the workers, Unite, has welcomed the decision.

Unite regional officer, Tom Fitzgerald, said: "We fully understand the frustration which led the two workers to occupy the crane, and we welcome their decision to leave the crane in order to facilitate our continuing efforts to resolve this dispute and ensure that our members have the decent pay and conditions to which they are entitled."

The union adds that the priority now is to ensure decent work on Kishoge site.

Industrial action at the site has been underway since September 19th, following a ballot of workers on September 11th.

JJ Rhatigan has called for an end to the dispute and for Unite to "enter the normal industrial relations procedures for resolving disputes."

The firm said in a statement: "Picketing by a small number of people since September 19th has involved persistent intimidation of 70 workers on the site, including stone throwing, slashing of lorry tyres and smashing windows of the bus bringing workers to their jobs each day."
