Our Courts Correspondent Francesca Comyn reports on evidence given by the parents:

The jury has heard the infant was hospitalised in March 2012 with grave injuries including seizures, bruising to the head, and bleeding around the brain.

The baby was brought to Cavan General by the childminder who denies assault.

Opening the prosecution's case barrister Sean Gillane said the baby's parents had previously noticed bruises on their daughter after being in the care of Sandra Higgins.

The jury's heard the mecial experts called by the prosecution and the defence will essentially be divided as to whether the baby's injuries were inflicted or accidental.
