As the working week comes to an end, and the excesses of the weekend start to kick off in earnest, finding the perfect cure for the morning after the night before can be a real headache, in more ways than one. But across the pond in the US, many Americans are certain that they have found the perfect elixir for escaping the strangle-hold of a hangover – in the form of a rehydrating drink for children with diarrhoea.  

Pedialyte has seen its adult market increase by almost 60 percent since 2012, with indulging grown-ups now accounting for more than a third of all sales in order, picking up bottles and sachets to clear their heads. A blend of electrolytes and minerals, Pedialyte found cult popularity on college campuses, where students who’d hit the sauce sought it out to bring themselves back to their senses.

Since then, social media has helped to spread the idea of using it as a remedy, growing in popularity with celebrities, and even becoming a part of Pharell Williams’ rider:
