A Sligo man (30) has admitted falsely imprisoning and killing pensioner Eugene Gillespie (67). Simon McGinley of Connaughton Road has pleaded not guilty to murder, but guilty to the manslaughter on September 22nd 2012.

However his manslaughter plea is not acceptable to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and he is to be tried on the murder charge.

A jury has been sworn in for the two week trial which will start tomorrow before Mr. Justice Garrett Sheehan at the Central Criminal Court.
