Jury duty is a civic duty one would imagine heads of state would be excused from for their lifetime - so no doubt a group of potential jurors in the Texas were surprised when former US President George W Bush also showed up for duty.

While the secret service agents around the Dallas courthouse might have been a source of intimidation for some, it seems 'Dubya' was a friendly, easy-going presence.

Sheri Coleman, another potential juror told Dallas Morning News that the former president was “very personable, very friendly, just ‘hey I’m here to serve,’ he asked questions and was very nice. I loved it.”

Judge Eric Moye was also complimentary towards Mr Bush, saying “he understood [jury duty] was important, he took it in good nature and he was engaged and talked to the lawyers.”

Perhaps inevitably, George Bush did not end up serving on the jury - not because of his high-profile, but because a jury had already been selected before they reached him on the potential juror panel.

He was, however, present in the court for several hours, took the time to talk to the public and staff, and posed for several photos while he was at it.
