US pharmaceutical company Alexion is to create 200 new jobs in Dublin over the next two years as it pump €75 million into a new plant at College Park in Blanchardstown.

Around 200 construction jobs will also be created during the building phase of the facility.

The company already employs 60 people at Park West in Dublin and had already announced plans to open an Athlone site.

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny says it represents a vote of confidence in Ireland.

Alexion, which develops therapies for patients with rare disorders, employs more than 1,800 worldwide. The new Irish jobs are in supply chain, quality control packaging, warehousing and supporting functions.

Alexion CEO Dr. Leonard Bell says Ireland is a natural place for companies to invest.

Ryanair to grow passengers

It comes as Ryanair announces 200 positions at its new Dublin offices at the Airside Business Park in Swords.

Management say the opportunities will be mostly in technology, software development and digital marketing.

Pepper asset servicing

Meanwhile, 100 jobs are to be created by Pepper - an asset servicing company - in Dublin and Co. Clare.

The new jobs will come on stream over the next twelve months, with recruitment already underway for 50 roles at its Shannon offices.

The company says it is looking for experienced people as well as graduates in areas such as mortgage arrears handling, customer services, real estate and legal.
