British Airways has announced that payment card and personal details from over 380,000 customers have been stolen from its online booking systems.

The airline said hackers stole the information from its website and mobile app between August 21st and September 5th.

It said no passenger travel or passport details were stolen during the breach – which has since been resolved.

“British Airways is communicating with affected customers and we advise any customers who believe they may have been affected by this incident to contact their banks or credit card providers and follow their recommended advice,” the airline said in a statement.

The airline said it had notified police and relevant authorities and pledged to provide further updates when appropriate.

The chairman and CEO of the airline, Alex Cruz said: “We are deeply sorry for the disruption that this criminal activity has caused. We take the protection of our customers’ data very seriously.”

It marks another IT headache for the airline – after an incident last year left 75,000 passengers stranded.
