An influencer based in County Clare has said she ‘doesn't know how people afford to live in Dublin’ after she was hit with a €57 bill for parking in the capital.
Brandbeautybycd.com founder Claire Clarkson travelled up from her home to Dublin for an event at TikTok’s HQ.
She decided to drive but had no idea before she left just how much that decision would cost her.
“I parked, not thinking too much about it,” she recalled on Lunchtime Live.
“Knew it was going to cost me a bit, didn't really see a price as I was going in, didn't really pay attention because I'm not from the city.”
In total, Ms Clarkson was there for seven hours and left expecting a bill of around €25 maximum.
“But no, it was €57,” she said.
“Like, scandalous. I genuinely didn’t expect that.”
By contrast, Ms Clarkson recently spent the day in Manchester and paid around a third what she did in Dublin.
“To put it into perspective, I was in Manchester the week before and I was parking in the city centre in Manchester, it was costing me 14 pounds,” she said.
“I even thought that was a lot; £14 if you're paying it every day, that's going to add up, right?
“I take it for granted; I live in County Clare, we don't pay money like that for parking.”
Overall, Ms Clarkson left wondering “how people afford to live in Dublin”.
