The Pakistani schoolgirl, Malala Yousafzai who was shot in the head by the Taliban for campaigning for girls' education will accept the Tipperary International Peace Award at a ceremony tomorrow.

Previous recipients include Nelson Mandela, Benazir Bhutto, Bill Clinton and Bob Geldof.

She is receiving the accolade for her campaigning work to ensure girls' rights to education across the world.

Since the age of 11, Malala had been secretly writing a blog for the BBC which describes the struggles faced by girls trying to receive an education under the Taliban.

She has already been named as one of the world's top 100 most influential people by Time Magazine and is a nominee for this year's Noble Peace Prize.

She has been called the world's most influential teenager.
