Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said the soon-to-be former Rehab CEO Angela Kerins should appear before a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee next week, as scheduled:
Enda Kenny was speaking to reporters in Swords, Co. Dublin today, where he was attending the announcement of 200 new jobs at Ryanair.
Earlier, the Public Accounts Committee said it still expects both Angela Kerins and Frank Flannery to face questioning next Thursday.
The Committee says the resignation of Ms. Kerins yesterday should make no difference to the planned evidence.
It was confirmed at today's PAC meeting that no correspondence has been received from either witness, regarding their attendance.
Committee Chairman, John McGuinness:
Meanwhile the PAC has also said it will write to An Garda Síochána and the Irish Prisons Service to ask for information about their phone recording systems.
But the committee has suggested it will wait for the terms of reference for the Fennelly Inquiry into the Garda Tapes to be announced, before it makes a decision on whether to investigate.
The Comptroller & Auditor General, Seamus McCarthy, says he believes gardaí spent at least €40,000 a year maintaining the recording system.
But he says he is reluctant to begin any investigation in case it overlaps with the one being carried out by Justice Fennelly:
Separately, former Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan will also be discussed today. Many members of the PAC are keen to invite him back and give him the opportunity to withdraw his previous remark that the actions of whistleblowers were disgusting.
That comment remains on the record despite Mr. Callinan's retirement.
