More than 18,000 contraband cigarettes have been seized by Revenue officers in Dublin Airport.
The NZ-branded cigarettes were discovered this afternoon in the checked-in luggage of a 42-year-old Estonian man.
Their retail value is estimated to be in the region of €9,700, representing a potential loss to the exchequer of around €7,700.
The man was arrested and brought before Dublin District Court this afternoon, where Judge Miriam Walsh remanded him in custody to Cloverhill prison until next Friday.
A Revenue spokesperson said: “The majority of people pay the right amount of tax and duty.
