Sadly, just because it’s summer, doesn’t mean the sun is destined to always shine.
In fact, people in Leinster and much of Ulster could be forgiven for waking up today and thinking it was winter.
Met Éireann has issued a status orange weather warning for the counties of Dublin, Louth, Meath and Wicklow.
“We’ve already seen rainfall totals since midnight of upwards of 25, 30 ml in some of those areas,” forecaster Aoife Kealy told Newstalk Breakfast.
“As we move through today, really through the morning and early afternoon, that heavy rain is going to continue.
“So, we’re going to see some very high totals - particularly in those counties under the orange warning.
“Dublin, Louth, Wicklow and Meath are likely to see some widespread surface flooding and very difficult traffic conditions are anybody out there this morning.”

Despite the deluge in the east, Ms Kealy continued that the rest of the country would remain “actually largely dry” throughout the day.
“There are a few light showers and patches of drizzle around but away from those eastern areas, it’s actually not a bad start,” she said.
“It is going to stay pretty dry for the rest of the country through the day.”
For those counties under the orange weather warning, the rain is expected to ease off around 2pm.
“So, it will be an improving picture for the later half of the day,” Ms Kealy said.
“So, we’re not seeing anything significant as this for the rest of the week either; not completely dry - but definitely an improvement.”
