An opinion poll published today indicates growing disenchantment with the entire political system.

The Millward Brown poll for the Sunday Independent also reveals that an overwhelming majority of people - 71 percent - are opposed to the banks taking tougher measures against distressed mortgage holders.

The poll's publication comes as Bank of Ireland warns that the new insolvency act will reduce the term for bankruptcy from twelve to three years, which could lead to additional pressure on financial institutions.
