A man is in a serious condition after being shot in Dublin city centre this afternoon.

The incident occurred on Bridgefoot St. in Dublin 8 at approximately 4:10pm.

It's understood that one gunman was involved, and the injured man has been taken to St James's Hospital.

Four units of the Dublin Fire Brigade are also in the area and are attending to a burned out car nearby.

The area has been sealed off for technical examination, and Gardaí in Kevin Street are appealing for witnesses.
