Prayers are being said for the late Maureen O'Hara at mass in Mayo today.
She passed away yesterday at the age of 95, surrounded by her family.
The screen siren helped put Co Mayo on the map with her role in the 1952 film The Quiet Man.
A festival in honour of that movie is underway in Cong this weekend.
Catherine Kenny of Ashford Castle met Maureen when she visited recently, and says to this day she is fondly remembered in Cong:
O'Hara was known for her roles in films such as Miracle on 34th Street and How Green Was My Valley.
She starred alongside John Wayne in a number of features, and frequently collaborated with director John Ford.
Speaking from State business in Canada, Arts Minister Heather Humphreys says she will be greatly missed:
Newstalk's George Hook also paid tribute to Maureen O'Hara:
Maureen O'Hara sadly gone. She was two of my best radio interviews. Glengarriff film festival and New Ross for Irish/American Hall of Fame
