Two people are dead after a shooting outside the Empire State Building.

One of the dead is the shooter named as 53-year-old Jeffery Johnson.

Authorities attended the scene at around 2pm Irish time after reports of gunfire.

Local media say up to 8 others have been injured in the gun attack.

New York police say there is no suggestion of any link with terrorism.

The incident is related to workplace dispute.

Johnson was employed for 6 years at an importer but was laid off about a year ago.

The shooting was the result of a dispute with a former co-worker.

The victim whose name has not yet been released was 41.

The Empire State Building is located on Fifth Avenue in the city.

It is one of the most popular tourist attractions there.
