Nearly 100 COVID-19 clusters in nursing homes and residential centres

There are 99 COVID-19 clusters in nursing homes and residential care centres around the country. 

The latest figures from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre show that, as of Midnight on Saturday there were 67 coronavirus clusters in Ireland’s nursing homes.

Meanwhile, there were 45 recorded in hospitals and 32 in residential institutions.

Meanwhile 1263 of Ireland’s COVID-19 patients are healthcare workers.

Dr Holohan said one third are nurses, 17% are doctors, 11% are healthcare assistants and 1.5% are porters.

Of the 4,916 cases that had been laboratory confirmed by Saturday, 3.4% had sadly passed away.

Meanwhile, 13% were admitted to intensive care.

Over 90% of the cases that have died so far have been over the age of 65 - as have nearly 40% of those who have been admitted to the ICU.

The over-65s made up one quarter of the confirmed cases up to Saturday.

Some 2692 of the country’s confirmed cases were in Dublin, making up 54.8% of the total. Cork had the second highest figure with 362 or 7.4%.

Cavan, Donegal, Galway, Kildare, Limerick, Mayo, Meath, Tipperary, Westmeath and Wicklow all have more than 100 confirmed cases.
