The number of women serving in An Garda Síochána is above the European average. Figures show that there are 3,309 female members of the force, which is 26% of the service.
In 2012, the average percentage of female members in police services in Europe was 19.48%.
It comes as the Garda College in Templemore is hosting a conference on 'Gender, Diversity and Police Leadership' this week.
The seminar will be attended by 50 participants - with police representatives from Northern Ireland, Germany, Poland, UK, Spain, Austria, Sweden and The Netherlands.
It is aimed at sharing insights and perspectives, from the both police and the private sector, on bringing gender and diversity considerations to the fore by those in leadership positions.
The gathering will have several speakers, including a keynote address from the President of the European Network of Policewomen, Montserrat Pina Martínez.
