Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned “no one will stop” Israel as its war with Hamas enters its 100th day.

In a televised address, Mr Netanyahu said he is not deterred by the lawsuit lodged by South Africa in the International Court of Justice alleging genocide.

“No one will stop us, not The Hague, not the axis of evil and not anyone else,” he said.

“We act according to international law; the [Israeli Defence Forces] makes effort to avoid unnecessary harm at people not involved.

“This is our policy, and this is what defines us and anything else is simply an attempt to make baseless accusations against Israel.”

War in Israel

War erupted between the Israeli State and militant group Hamas in Palestine on October 7th after Hamas launched an attack killing 1,200 people and taking 250 people hostages.

Since the conflict escalated, the Gaza ministry of health have reported over 23,000 Palestinians have been killed.

Mr Netanyahu has said the Government aims to crush the militant group until it is eradicated.

Israel’s airstrikes and ground offensive has resulted in neighbourhoods flattened and electricity being cut off in many areas for long stretches of time.

Surgeons at Al Aqsa hospital in Gaza are operating in darkness, and health worker Taiseer Abu Sweirih says conditions are unbearable.

“There's a lot of people in here,” he said. “In a couple of hours, if electricity doesn’t come back, people will die.”

Calls for ceasefire

Yesterday marked a global day of action calling for a ceasefire immediately.

Thousands of people marched in Dublin from Parnell Square to the Department of Foreign Affairs near Stephen’s Green.

In London, Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald told a crowd of thousands South Africa “has shown others what it means to lead” in its lawsuit against Israel.

“Israel must be held to account, the slaughter must end now, governments everywhere must call for ceasefires,” she said.

"I say this standing here in London, in common cause with you, having walked our own long journey out of conflict, of building a peace for twenty-five years.”

A rally is being held in central London again today to demand the release of more than 100 people believed to be still held by Hamas militants in Gaza.
