Whether you liked them boiled, fried or scrambled, no one can argue that eggs are a good source of nutrition.

However new research has discovered that the number of calories in a medium sized egg has dropped  and now contains just 66 compared to 78 calories.

They have also discovered that eggs contain more vitamin D than previously thought.

Scientists believe it’s down to hens eating a better diet which has also seen eggs become 20 percent lower in fat.

And an American obesity study found that people who eat two boiled eggs for breakfast ate 400 fewer calories in a day compared to those who didn’t.

They believe the main reason for change in the nutritional value in eggs, is a change in hens diet.

Many hens used to eat meat and bone meal, now majority of farm bred eggs  eat high protein formula, which is believed to be the main reason in the increase of the nutritional value of eggs.

It is also believed another reason that eggs have become healthier is due to the better technology, used by scientists which  now can analyse the nutritional content  more accurately.

Previous measurements may have overestimated fat and cholesterol levels.
