There were just under 1.2 million families in the state on census night 2011.

Thats a jump of over 55% in twenty years.

The average number of children per family now stands at just below 1.4 with just over 363,000 births registered between 2006 and 2011.

Rural families tended to be larger than those in urban areas.

Just under 42% of married couples had five or more children.

Only 42.5% of lone parents were at work.

Just under 400,000 people were living on their own on census night, the majority of those were single people with just under 1 in four widowed.
