Two prison officers have been injured following an altercation with up to 15 prisoners in Mountjoy Prison in Dublin.

The incident happened on Sunday at around 2.30pm on the B1 landing.

One officer has been treated for a broken nose, and the other suffered a dislocated finger.

The prisoners involved will now be subject to internal disciplinary procedures.

Jim Mitchell is deputy general secretary of the Irish Prison Officers Association.

He says his members are subjected to the highest levels of violence ever.
