Drivers are again being urged to watch out for difficult road conditions after further frost and ice overnight.
Met Éireann has extended its Status Yellow snow-ice warning until Sunday, warning that it will remain very cold until the end of the weekend with severe frosts at night and ice on untreated surfaces.
The Midlands is expected to be the worst affected part of the country today.
More chilly weather is expected tonight with temperatures likely to plummet to between -2C and -6C degrees, leading to further treacherous conditions on the roads.
Motorists are being warned to take particular care on routes in the midlands, north-west and in Wicklow this morning.

Met Éireann forecaster Vincent O'Shea said there won't be much snow – with ice set to be the main concern.
“We have had a very inclement spell of weather overnight,” he said.
“It gave rain, sleet and snow in places; there is some lying snow even in inland areas as we speak.
“So, widespread ice and frost to contend with this morning; in fact that ice and hard ground may well persist into the day – especially in the midlands where there will be no thaw at all.
“But most places will be snow free; so ice will be the issue.”
