A motorcyclist in his 50s has died following a car crash on the N55 at Lissoy in County Westmeath. 

The collision between the motorcycle and a car happened at around 5.30pm yesterday evening.  

The man’s body has been taken to the Midland Regional Hospital, where a post-mortem will take place. 

The N55 between Athlone and Ballymahon was closed overnight by Gardaí, who are due to carry out an examination of the scene this morning. 

Anyone who witnessed the crash has been asked to contact Athlone Garda Station.
