Morning top 5: Boeing to suspend 737 MAX production; two dead after car crash in Dublin

Two people have been killed in a crash in South Dublin.

It happened in the early hours of this morning on Butterfield Avenue in Rathfarnham when a car collided with a lampost.

The matter has been referred to the Garda Ombudsman (GSOC) for examination.

Aircraft manufacturer Boeing says it is suspending production of the 737 in January.

It follows news that the grounding of the plane-maker's best-selling MAX looks set to last into 2020.

Two fatal crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia led to the grounding, and the production freeze will impact suppliers, airlines and financiers across the globe.

The Minister for Sport has rejected the FAI's request for a bailout.

Shane Ross met delegates last night to discuss the associations poor financial state, which sees it facing liabilities of €55 million.

He says a meeting with UEFA will now be sought in the coming days to find a solution.

A redundancy scheme for senior gardaí is expected to get the approval of the government today.

30 senior officer jobs will be cut as part of the plans to reduce and restructure Garda divisions.

Those who take the voluntary package are expected to get six months pay on top of their normal pension and lump sum packages.

Two men have been charged in connection with a shooting in Lucan last month.

Wayne Whelan was found inside a burning car in the Mount Andrew area on Monday November 18th, and had been shot a number of times before the car was set alight.

Two men, who were arrested last Thursday in connection with the murder investigation, are due before Blanchardstown District Court this morning.

A woman who was also detained has been released without charge.
