Temperature checks and a no-handshake policy will be in place when businesses start to re-open in the coming months.

The Government is launching a list of Return to Work protocols later today.

They include regulations for social distancing, hand hygiene, first-aid, mental health, ventilation and heating.

Each workplace will have to nominate a staff member to ensure the protocols are being properly followed.

Two thirds of people who have died with COVID-19 have been aged 80 years or older.

The death toll from the virus stands at 1,429, after the Department of Health announced a further 27 deaths.

Overall, the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus has risen to over 22,541.

Meanwhile, there are 10 clusters in meat processing plants across the country, with over 560 cases confirmed within the facilities.

There are 12 clusters in Direct Provision centres, involving 149 patients.

The Teachers Union of Ireland has accepted the Government’s ‘calculated grades’ system as a replacement for this year’s Leaving Cert.

The summer exams have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak with schools asked to estimate each student’s grade instead.

After a meeting of members last night, the TUI said it needed clarification on some issues but stood ready to support the plan.

The Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland is due to meet again today.

The UK Government is planning to introduce a 14-day quarantine for people arriving in from anywhere but Ireland.

UK airlines said Whitehall had revealed the plan to them.

Industry body, Airlines UK, says the policy needs "a credible exit plan" and should be reviewed weekly.

The new restriction is expected to take effect at the end of this month.

UK airlines say the government has told them it will bring in a 14-day quarantine for people arriving from any country apart from Ireland.

Chambers Ireland says the Government must retrain those who've lost their jobs because of COVID-19.

It says the state needs to ensure those in receipt of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment don't become long-term unemployed.

It believes the sectors hardest hit by coronavirus, like hospitality and tourism, won't recover overnight and will need significant support.

Chambers Ireland Chief Executive, Ian Talbot says the decision not to cut off COVID welfare payments in June is welcome, but more must be done.
