Gardaí believe the human remains found near Ferns in County Wexford may be those of a woman.
A post mortem is due to be carried out on the skeletal remains today.
They were discovered in a ditch in Ballyandrew near Ferns by a woman who was out walking her dog yesterday morning.
It is not known how long the body had been there of how the person died.

Irish nurses and midwives will this afternoon announce the first in a series of 24 hour strikes over pay and working conditions.
It’s after 95% of INMO members voted in favour of industrial action in a ballot in late December.
The union’s executive council will meet this afternoon before announcing its next steps.
The strike action will see members withdraw their labour - providing only emergency and lifesaving care.

A letter, signed by more than 200 British MPs, urging the UK government to rule out a no-deal Brexit will be handed to the British Prime Minister later.
All the signatories to the letter have been invited to a meeting with Theresa May today.
It comes as MPs prepare to vote on a new amendment that could prevent tax changes unless the Government's Brexit plan get Parliament's approval.
It's being tabled by a group of pro-Remain MPs who are against a no-deal exit from the EU.

Two Irish men are to appear before a court in Australia tomorrow on murder charges.
It comes after a 66-year-old man died in hospital after an alleged assault in Sydney.
The men aged 21 and 24-years-old are both from County Donegal and have already appeared in court on assault charges.
The charge was upgraded to murder after the man lost his fight for life at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney yesterday.

Researchers at the Royal College of Surgeons have developed a new treatment for tuberculosis.
The disease, which mainly affects the lungs, is one of the top ten causes of death worldwide.
Data from the World Health Organization shows 10 million people fell ill with TB and 1.6 million died from it in 2017.
It’s hoped the new medicine can be used to treat hundreds of thousands of patients with TB in years to come.
