The death toll from the Easter Sunday terror attacks in Sri Lanka has been reduced by more than 100.

The country’s health ministry said it now believes “about 253” people died in Sunday’s blasts.

The ministry said the change was the result of a calculation error.

Officials think it's "very likely" there will be more terrorist attacks and the country's prime minister says some militants may still be on the run.

Strong winds and some power outages are expected as Storm Hannah hits the country later.

A status orange warning is in place for Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick from 4pm - and will be extended to Tipperary and Waterford from 10 tonight with gusts of up to 130 kilometres an hour.

A status yellow wind warning will also come into effect from 11pm for counties in the west, north-west and south-east.

A man remains in a serious condition in hospital this morning after a shooting in Drogheda yesterday afternoon.

The 36-year-old was shot in the leg and shoulder at Hardmans Gardens at around 4:20pm.

A red Volkswagon Golf was used in the attack.

Gardaí say it was later found burnt out in the Sheephouse area on the Rathmullen Road and are appealing for witnesses.

Human rights, community policing and national security will be at the forefront of discussions at a major policing conference in Galway today.

The event at NUIG, will focus on key recommendations of a report by the Commission on the Future of Policing from September last year.

The Minister for Justice and the Garda Commissioner will be among those speaking at the conference.
