Sinn Féin would demand a border poll if it was to be part of any proposed coalition after the next election.

Mary Lou McDonald told her party's Ard Fheis last night that a vote on Irish unity needs to happen within five years.

She also made pre-election promises to make childcare, education and rent cheaper.

Two men remain in custody after the gardaí foiled another possible gangland murder in Dublin.

Armed officers searched a house in Clondalkin on Friday and found a loaded gun and bullets.

Britain's Prince Andrew says he was at a pizza restaurant on the night he is accused of having sex with a 17-year-old girl.

Virginia Roberts-Giuffre says she met the Duke of York at a nightclub in London before they slept together in 2001.

Speaking to BBC's Newsnight, he categorically denied Mrs Roberts-Giuffre's accusations and also said he didn't regret his friendship with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein - who died in prison earlier this year.

Hong Kong police say one of their media liaison officers was hit in the leg by an arrow in a standoff with anti-government protesters around a barricaded university.

Activists threw petrol bombs - some of them by catapult - and shot arrows with bows at police.

They responded with tear gas and water cannon at the Polytechnic University in Kowloon.
