Irish-based Ryanair pilots will today announce whether they are going on strike.

Some 170 pilots are expected to join their UK colleagues in announcing industrial action later today.

It could result in thousands of people having their flights cancelled; however, the airline has insisted it will do its utmost to avoid disruption.

A man has been charged with the murder of Frank Kerr in Newry 20 years ago.

54-year-old postal worker Frank Kerr was shot during a robbery at a post sorting office in November 1994.

Police say a 60-year-old man has now been charged with his murder.

The man is also charged with robbery, possession of a firearm and membership of a proscribed organisation.

He is due to appear at Newry Magistrates court later today.

The Agriculture Minister is calling for meat-plant owners to withdraw their threat of legal action against protesters.

It comes as farmers picket outside meat factories for a 12th day in a row – angry at the prices they are getting for their animals.

Michael Creed is calling on the Beef Plan Movement, which is behind the strikes, to end the demonstrations and agree to talks.

Meat Industry Ireland said the action has led to temporary staff layoffs at factories.

The body has threatened legal action to prevent further damage.

There was a 35% increase in the number of complaints of driving-licence fraud last year.

The Road Safety Authority said there were 247 reports of people illegally obtaining licences in 2017.

This rose to 383 in 2018 - and there have been a further 213 this year.

The figures were released to Newstalk under the Freedom of Information Act.

A man remains in a serious condition this morning after a crash, which claimed another man's life in County Louth.

A teenage boy was also injured in the crash on the Carrickmacross Road yesterday afternoon.

The driver of the car - a man in his 70s - was pronounced dead at the scene.

The boy in his mid-teens is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, while the man in his 40s was airlifted to Tallaght Hospital.
