New figures show 98,544 applications were processed by the Passport Service for residents in the UK this year alone.
Over 822,000 passports were issued in 2018, with more than 6,500 applying in a single day during the busiest periods.

Two young Donegal men have appeared in court following an alleged assault on a pensioner in Sydney, Australia.
The 66-year-old man was treated by paramedics after being found lying on a road in the suburb of Summerhill early yesterday morning, and remains in critical condition in hospital.
Two Irish nationals, aged 24 and 21, were arrested nearby and charged in connection with the alleged attack.

Three men are due in court later this morning after a shop was held up in Dublin.
They were arrested following the robbery in Stillorgan on Saturday evening.
An amount of money along with a hammer and axe were recovered from a car after the robbery.
